New York Jets. Geno Smith. 3. player. 30.
Geno Smith showed some subtle signs of improvement in his second year, but then again, his rookie season was a dreadful one that saw him throw 21 interceptions and only 12 touchdowns. This could be the last year the former second-round pick gets to prove he is a starting quarterback in the NFL before he is relegated to career backup status or out of the league entirely.

It is certainly off to a rough start after Smith and former teammate IK Enemkpali got into a fight in the locker room, leading to a broken jaw for Smith. Smith is now out 6-10 weeks and has lost the starting job to Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Last year the Jets signed receiver Eric Decker and drafted tight end Jace Amaro to help his development and this year they traded for perennial Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall and drafted Ohio State burner Devin Smith in the second round. If Smith comes back and plays, he has no excuses entering his third year as the starter with the help around him on offense and the defense could be one of the league’s best, so the Jets could be a playoff team if Smith is just average.

You won’t find much lower expectations than that, but the Jets need him to continue to cut his interception rate and the additions of Marshall and Smith should boost his passing metrics. Prove you want to be a starter in this league or your time in New York could soon be over.
. Quarterback
