Denver Broncos release RB Montee Ball
By Jack Crosby
The Denver Broncos have released running back and former Wisconsin Badgers star Montee Ball
When his name didn’t come through the wire on Saturday with the plethora of other cuts, there were some that believed Montee Ball was safe with the Denver Broncos. Well, just one day later, that’s definitely not the case. The Broncos have announced they’ve released him on Sunday.
It did seem a bit odd at the time that the Broncos would keep Ball on the roster as a fourth member of the running back crew, although as has been the case over the past few weeks, there were still some rumors going around that the team might trade him. Still, after the cuts were made on Saturday, John Elway made it seem as if Ball would be sticking around with the Broncos for this season.
“We still think that Montee can continue to improve … He was in the top 53 in the our mind,” Broncos VP John Elway said Saturday via NFL.com.
Apparently, something changed in the last 24 hours.
Denver drafted Ball out of Wisconsin in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft after quite the impressive collegiate career which included a run towards the Heisman Trophy, which he fell short of. In his two seasons with the Broncos, Ball rushed for just 731 yards and five touchdowns.
Now, it remains to be seen who will take a chance on the former Big Ten standout.
Following the release, Ball thanked the Broncos organization.
