Kam Chancellor ends holdout with the Seahawks
Kam Chancellor has ended his holdout with the Seattle Seahawks.
With his team spiraling towards skid row and sputtering to an 0-2 start, Seattle safety Kam Chancellor has ended his holdout with the Seahawks.
According to Adam Schefter, per a text conversation between Chancellor and ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith, the decision to return is more about helping his brothers in arms rather than cowing to Seattle.
"Here’s what Kam Chancellor texted Stephen A. Smith: “Ima go help my teammates that are understanding of my position and the ones who aren’t. God forgives all, why can’t i? Time to help us get back to the big dance . I can address business after the season. Me and Marshawn started a mission 2 years ago. I can’t let my Dawg down….Real talk.”"
Chancellor had missed a majority of the offseason, as well as the first two games of the regular season, after reaching an impasse with the team. At one point in the negotiations, the team and player were less than $1 million apart ($900,000) when owner Paul Allen walked away from the bargaining table.
Chancellor and the Seahawks have no discrepancy over the safety’s 2015 salary. However, Chancellor wanted a paycheck of $9 million for 2016, rather than the $8.1 million being offered up by the team.
Without their All-Pro safety roaming the secondary, Seattle has allowed 356.5 yards per game of total offense, which ranks as 17th in the NFL. Even more telling of his departure is Seattle’s passing yards allowed per game. The vaunted Legion of Boom has given up 510 yards through the air – an average of 255 yards per game, good for 21st in the league.
