Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles suffered a torn ACL on Sunday and is out for the rest of the season.

The last thing the Kansas City Chiefs was a major injury to one of their best players — which is exactly what happened on Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead. Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles suffered a non-contact knee injury that has now seems to be a torn ACL.

Ian Rapoport from NFL Network reports that initial test indicate it’s a torn ACL for the Chiefs running back.

Charles tore his left ACL back in 2011 but this latest ACL tear is to the opposite knee. Statistically speaking, once a player tears an ACL in either of their knees, it drastically increases the chances of a tear occurring again, even if it’s in the opposite knee that wasn’t originally injured.

With Charles out for the season, the bulk of the load in the Chiefs running game will fall on Kniles Davis and Charcandrick West. The latter of those two backs received most of the work once Charles left the game with his injury, but Davis isn’t someone to sleep on.

It’s Davis who is Charles traditional backup, but with the back out for the rest of the season, West is going to factor into things more and more as a two-back system is installed in Kansas City.
