Report: Rick Carlisle, Mavericks nearing five-year contract extension

Rick Carlisle and the Dallas Mavericks are going to be staying together a little bit longer
The Dallas Mavericks and head coach Rick Carlisle are reportedly nearing an agreement on a contract extension that would keep him around for another five years, according to a report from ESPN’s Marc Stein.
Carlisle took over as head coach of the Mavericks in 2008 and the team has made the NBA Playoffs every season under his tenure, aside from 2012. Two years after he took over, he led the Mavericks to the NBA Championship when they took down the Big 3 of the Miami Heat in their first season together, stunning many in the NBA world at the time.
Last season Carlisle and the Mavericks were bounced in the first round of the NBA Playoffs for the second consecutive season, this time by the Houston Rockets.
Still, despite two first-round exits in a row, there’s no denying that the talent is here on this team to make a few more runs at an NBA title, and with that being the case, you’d like to keep a coach around that has proven he can guide you through the rigors of an 82-game NBA season and into the playoffs.
Prior to taking over the Mavericks, Carlisle spent two seasons as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons and four seasons as coach of the Indiana Pacers.
