College Football Results Against The Spread For Week 8

I think I had a pretty good week this week if my Pick Em results were any indication. I know I missed a few of the big ones, but overall, I think I did well. Let’s find out together, shall we!

Here are my college football results against the spread for week 8 of the college football season. Winner against the spread are in BOLD. Here are all of the picks in case you want to follow along.

Louisiana-Lafayette at Arkansas State(-6.5): HIT! This was still closer than I thought it would be.

Temple at East Carolina(-2.5): HIT! I hope you took some of the free money from the casinos too on this one.

Georgia Southern at Appalachian State(-6.5): MISS! I knew better. Why do I find myself saying that at least once a week?

California at UCLA(-3.5): MISS! So much for the Bruins playing poorly at home…..

Memphis(-10.5) at Tulsa: HIT! Memphis is sure fun to watch, thought the defense can be painful at times.

Utah State(-5.5) at San Diego State: MISS! This was quite a performance by the Aztecs against what is supposed to be a good defense.

Houston(-21.5) at Central Florida: HIT! I said I would have taken Houston for 35 or under. I would have hit that too, though it didn’t start out that way.

Southern Mississippi(-15.5) at Charlotte: HIT! You can’t take Charlotte this year under any circumstances. Seriously.

Kansas State at Texas(-6.5): HIT! This is not the same team that got blasted by Notre Dame and got embarrassed by TCU. This was more easy money.

North Carolina State(-9.5) at Wake Forest: HIT! Wake’s defense is still pretty good, but you wouldn’t know it by the first quarter that the Wolfpack had in this one.

Pittsburgh(-6.5) at Syracuse: MISS! In case you are wondering, yes, I was really hoping that Pitt wouldn’t just play for a field goal. Then I was hoping they would miss the field goal. I’m never going to get all of them right, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to!

Northwestern at Nebraska(-7.5): MISS! I really knew better here too. Damn you Minnesota for making Nebraska look good! I was going to take them to lose the rest! Against the spread, anyway…..

Army at Rice(-7.5): MISS! Oh, that stupid half!

Iowa State at Baylor(-37.5): HIT! On both counts. This wasn’t close, but Baylor wasn’t close to covering either.

Auburn at Arkansas(-6.5): HIT! This was arguably the most entertaining game of the season, and Arkansas still covered. Bonus!

Clemson(-6.5) at Miami(FL): HIT! The truly comical part was that Clemson was favored by less than a touchdown.

Boston College at Louisville(-7.5): HIT! Keep picking BC not to get covered. Their record will not show just how competitive they have been this year. Their defense is outstanding.

Tulane at Navy(-23.5): MISS! This was moderately surprising with as bad as Tulane has been for much of the year. The game was still never in question though.

Bowling Green(-14.5) at Kent State: HIT! So much for Kent having a good defense. They do when they are playing average or below teams. Bowling Green is not one of those.

Fresno State at Air Force(-17.5): MISS! Can you blame me after the blowout loss to Colorado State?

Miami(OH) at Western Michigan(-25.5): MISS! Now you see why I hate lines like this with average teams involved.

Toledo(-14.5) at Massachusetts: HIT! It took a huge second half by the Rockets (41 points) to come out with a win. We were fortunate they covered.

Central Michigan(-7.5) at Ball State: MISS! My track record in the MAC is not very good this year unless Toledo is involved.

Eastern Michigan at Northern Illinois(-27.5): HIT! The half was in my favor this time around.

Virginia at North Carolina(-17.5): HIT! Good thing that half was on that side of the line or I would have taken UNC.

Texas Tech at Oklahoma(-14.5): MISS! This is why I don’t bet for or against my team. I shouldn’t have here either. That said, if you would have told me that Zach Sanchez would be hurt on the first play of the game and we would still cover, I would have had you committed.

Ohio(-2.5) at Buffalo: MISS! I hate picking Buffalo. I don’t know if I have one game right in which they were involved. Wait, there is one: the Bulls didn’t get covered by Penn State.

Middle Tennessee State at Louisiana Tech(-7.5): HIT! The Tech offense is fun to watch. Fortunately, the average fan will get a chance to watch them during bowl season.

North Texas at Marshall(-29.5): HIT! This was easy money too. Marshall only scored 30 points. They were nowhere near covering this.

Wisconsin(-6.5) at Illinois: HIT! Illinois is still getting too much credit for beating a surprisingly average Nebraska team.

Penn State(-6.5) at Maryland: MISS! That’s what I get for taking Penn State…..

Indiana at Michigan State(-16.5): MISS! A 24-0 outburst in the fourth quarter did me in. It actually looked like the Hoosiers were going to win this game for a while.

Duke at Virginia Tech(-3.5): HIT! This was another entertaining game. It was also the first four overtime game in ACC history. Hopefully you took Duke straight up like I did!

Tennessee at Alabama(-14.5): MISS! You have to hand it to the Vols. They may have played their best game of the year, but still came up short.

Kansas at Oklahoma State(-34.5): MISS! This was an impressive showing considering what happened earlier in the day during the Homecoming Parade.

Washington State at Arizona(-7.5): HIT! Don’t look now, but the Cougars are dangerous again. They are 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Pac 12.

Missouri(-2.5) at Vanderbilt: MISS! Well, it was low scoring. Missouri’s offense might be the worst of any power five school. It might not be close either.

SMU at South Florida(-12.5): HIT! How is SMU this bad? They made a bowl game two years ago!

Hawaii at Nevada(-7.5): MISS! I need to listen to myself more often. You just can’t take Hawaii on the mainland, dummy!

Connecticut at Cincinnati(-12.5): MISS! UConn’s defense might have played its worst game of the year so far.

Louisiana-Monroe(-1.5) at Idaho: HIT! Don’t look now, but Idaho has three wins. Which matches the total of the last three seasons…….combined! Oh, and they haven’t even played New Mexico State yet!

Old Dominion at Florida International(-13.5): HIT! Wow, ODU is bad. Bad, bad bad.

Florida Atlantic(-5.5) at UTEP: MISS! Hmmm……didn’t see that coming.

Florida State(-6.5) at Georgia Tech: MISS! Where did that come from? GT looked good to open the year, but then they got bad. Really bad. Then they beat a top ten team. I don’t even know what to say.

Texas A&M at Mississippi(-2.5): MISS! I believed the hype, and I shouldn’t have. I still have no idea how Ole Miss lost to Florida.

Western Kentucky at LSU(-16.5): HIT! The Hilltoppers managed to keep it close for about a half. That counts for something.

South Alabama at Texas State(-3.5): MISS! At least Texas State was able to pad their defensive numbers while doubling up the Jags.

New Mexico at San Jose State(-7.5): HIT! Tyler Ervin is becoming another one of my favorite unheralded backs. He put on quite a show in this one.

Kentucky at Mississippi State(-11.5): HIT! Stop me if you’ve heard this before: This could be the year that Mark Stoops and Kentucky become a force in the SEC. The East is the weaker division, and they are a talented bunch. Blah blah blah. This bubble has officially burst once again.

Utah at USC(-3.5) MISS! Well, it was fun while it lasted, huh Utah? Now who will carry the torch for the Pac 12? A Stanford team that lost to Northwestern?

Ohio State(-21.5) at Rutgers: MISS! I should have changed this when Barrett was named the starter. We all know the Buckeyes were a different offense with him under center.

Troy(-5.5) at New Mexico State: MISS! Did I say that Troy was a sucker bet? I meant New Mexico State…..

Wyoming at Boise State(-35.5): HIT! I should have had more confidence in this one. Boise is good, but not that good.

Colorado at Oregon State(-2.5): HIT! This could be the passing of the torch for the dubious distinction of worst Pac 12 team.

Washington at Stanford(-10.5) HIT! The Cardinal now have command of the Pac 12, but for how long?

I put together my second straight week over .500 with a 29-26 mark this week. That puts me at 212-207 on the year. I finally have a little bit of breathing room between myself and .500. How did the point system work out? Let’s check that out. The season totals are in parenthesis.

1. 5-3 (26-24)

2. 5-8 (63-54)

3. 9-9 (70-75)

4. 8-5 (38-39)

5. 2-1 (15-15)

My good picks for the fours and fives gave me a total of 13 points this week, bringing me back into the black on the season at +1. I am happy with my week 8 totals. Let’s see if I can keep it up in week 9!
