San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen is out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a lacerated kidney

In Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, Keenan Allen took a hit to the kidneys while jumping for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter. This turned out to be his last play of his season.

According to report, Allen will miss the rest of this season, which is a massive blow to the Chargers offensive attack.

Allen had an excellent rookie season, recording over 1,000 yards with 8 touchdowns. After a lackluster sophomore campaign, where the Chargers’ wide out was only able to haul in 77 passes for 783 yards, Allen looked back to his explosive best. In a pass happy offense, Allen was Philip Rivers number 1 target, and he will be a major blow for the Chargers.

San Diego will be happy to welcome veteran Stevie Johnson back, alongside future hall of fame tight end Antonio Gates, from injury. Johnson, Gates and fellow wideout Malcom Floyd will now be expected to lead the Chargers passing attack, and while first round rookie Melvin Gordon struggles behind a banged up offensive line, Philip Rivers will be relying on his pass catchers. The Chargers offense is still dangerous, but with Keenan Allen out for the year, it has most certainly has been blunted.
