Ben Roethlisberger has apparent ankle injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers have another Ben Roethlisberger injury to worry about. Roethlisberger, who missed over a month earlier in the season with a sprained MCL, had to be carted off the field on Sunday afternoon against the Oakland Raiders with an apparent ankle injury.

Roethlisberger could not put any weight on the foot and CBS showed a picture of Roethlisberger showing dismay and discomfort before he left the field. Without Big Ben, the Steelers would be in major trouble. It would be Landry Jones coming in to replace Reothlisberger, who played two games earlier this season. Jones was terrific in relief of Mike Vick against the Arizona Cardinals, but was awful in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Should Roethlisberger miss any real time, Pittsburgh is looking at the end of its competitive season. The Steelers still have to play against the Seattle Seahawks and Cincinnati Bengals on the road, along with home games against the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts. The Steelers don’t have a very strong defense, so the loss of Roethlisberger almost guarantees a ton of lopsided games against better competition.

Pittsburgh has been dealing with a litany of injuries all season, including running back Le’Veon Bell tearing his ACL last week. Without Bell and Roethlisberger, the 4-4 Steelers will rely on Martavis Bryant, Antonio Brown and Heath Miller more than ever.
