Kobe Bryant acted shocked that he’s leading NBA All-Star voting at the first return

Kobe Bryant has been playing the role of gracious honoree wherever he has been playing since announcing his impending retirement at the end of the 2015-16 NBA season. He’s been honored like a legend throughout the entire ordeal and that will almost surely continue to be the case. His latest honor was leading the voting for the NBA All-Star Game at the first return.

For anyone with half a brain that knows how the traditions of the NBA work, it only makes sense that Kobe would be voted in as a legend on his way out of the league; that’s just kind of the way things have worked with players of his caliber. However, Kobe is pretending like all of this isn’t expected.

After finding out that he was leading the All-Star voting while he was scrolling through social media, Bryant claims that he saw the votes and was “shocked” and that he initially looked at it and said, “What the hell?” per Complex.

That’s all fine and well that Kobe is pretending to play the humility card throughout this entire season, but I’d much rather see him stay true to the player and personality that he’s been for most of his career. I’d love to have him say (and probably be more truthful in doing so) that he saw the voting and thought, of course I’m No. 1. Vino!

Instead, we get this neutered version of Kobe’s personality where he’s trying to appeal to fans or whatever. When really, we just want the old Kobe back.
