NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl Odds & Prediction

Here are the odds and predictions for the NOVA Loans Arizona Bowl!

The bowls are more than half over, and though I haven’t watched all of them between holiday festivities and work, I don’t think I am off to that great of a start. My bowl mania picks were doing okay until Nebraska beat UCLA. I still have the against the spread picks to go, and from the looks of it, it will be a struggle to stay at .500 in bowl season. I still will finish in the black in the points system though.

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Just in case you missed any:

Nevada vs. Colorado State(-3.5) at Tucson, AZ(4):

Nevada(6-6, 4-4):

Wins: vs. UC Davis(31-17), at Buffalo(24-21), vs. New Mexico(35-17), vs. Hawaii(30-20), at Fresno State(30-16), vs. San Jose State(37-34)

Losses: vs. Arizona(20-44), at Texas A&M(27-44), vs. UNLV(17-23), at Wyoming(21-28), at Utah State(27-31), at San Diego State(14-31)

Record vs. bowl teams: 2-4

Colorado State(7-5, 5-3):

Wins: vs. Savannah State(65-13), at UTSA(33-31), vs. Air Force(38-23), at Wyoming(26-7), vs. UNLV(49-35), at New Mexico(28-21), at Fresno State(34-31)

Losses: vs. Minnesota(20-23), vs. Colorado(24-27), at Utah State(18-33), vs. Boise State(10-41), vs. San Diego State(17-41)

Record vs. bowl teams: 2-4

This is exhibit 1-A as to why there are too many bowl games, as if the three 5-7 teams weren’t enough to convince you. Two teams from the same conference are playing in a bowl game. I guess the good part is that we have plenty of common opponents – six to be exact – to judge these teams by. Colorado State beat two teams (UNLV and Wyoming) that beat Nevada. However, of the four teams that they both beat or lost to, Colorado State won by less or lost by more than the Wolfpack.

Nevada is still a run-first team, but they don’t have the playmakers that they did last year. Colorado State struggled while Nick Stevens grew into the offense. The Rams won four straight to close the season, and got as good of a bowl matchup as they could hope for. You cant really say that either team has a big advantage here.

I will admit that I have watched Colorado State more than Nevada this year. The Rams have a solid defense. If all you watched was the Boise State game, you wouldn’t know, but you can attribute that to Jeremy McNichols. Nevada doesn’t have a playmaker of that capability, or even one like former Nevada QB Cody Fajardo.

My pick: Colorado State
