Happy Holidays to all of you readers! You may be taking it easy, but there are bowl games to prepare for, so I am still at it! I still have nearly 30 picks to make to try and stay above .500. It could be a challenge with the way this bowl season has started!

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Just in case you missed any:

UCLA looked really good and really bad at times this year. The bad was mostly at home. Then there is the little tidbit that the Bruins have lost in both previous incarnations of this  game for those of you that are superstitious. The Bruins offense is littered with talent once again, but have been held back by the inconsistency of freshman QB Josh Rosen. Rosen’s ability to get the ball into the hands of playmakers will decide the game.

Nebraska has had a rough first year under Mike Riley. On the bright side, he is very familiar with UCLA from being in the Pac 12 for so many years. He has come under fire in his first year at Nebraska for poor clock management, play calling issues, and the regression of QB Tommie Armstrong at the end of the year. After Armstrong played a nearly flawless game in the upset of Big Ten(14) champion Michigan State, he struggled against Rutgers, and was Iowa’s most valuable player in the season finale. Can he rebound?

You can talk all you want about Nebraska being in most games, but the facts are that they lost the home opener for the first time in nearly 30 years, and lost seven games a year after they won nine with practically the same team. The pass defense is awful (statistically in the bottom ten), which was on display in a loss to Purdue. I just don’t think this staff has the attention of Pelini’s players. They are used to a different kind of coaching, and are having a hard time getting behind this staff, especially since the staff let the team down more than the players did this year. I just don’t see them beating the Bruins. They might not stay close.

My pick: UCLA
