The New York Rangers could trade defenseman Keith Yandle at the NHL trade deadline

The New York Rangers are currently in second place in the Metropolitan Division and stand a good chance at making the playoffs. However, their future is in question because they gave up a lot of prospects and picks to gather pieces for a Stanley Cup run. The Rangers have a difficult decision to make with pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Keith Yandle. The Rangers could trade him at the trade deadline if they think it helps their future.

Keith Yandle and his agent have yet to express much interest in an extension with the Rangers and the Rangers are already paying Dan Girardi and Marc Staal a ton of money. They likely don’t want to pay Yandle the price that he wants. Because of that, the Rangers are likely going to at least explore trading him if it helps them get a younger player such as Jonathan Drouin or Cam Atkinson. The Rangers sound like they don’t expect him to stay with the team.

Yandle is an offensive defenseman who could help a number of contenders. The Washington Capitals (depending on their health), Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, and Los Angeles Kings are just a few of the teams that could be interested in trading for Yandle at the trade deadline. Even if it’s just in a third pairing role, he produces at an impressive rate and can be a boost to anyone’s power play.
