Brooklyn Nets. 5. team. 147.
Don’t look now, but the Nets have won three out of five games.

I promise. It happened.

Brooklyn cruised to a double-digit home win over their in-city counterpart in the New York Knicks on Friday, and that was a strong way to come out of the gate after a reasonable close to the first “half” of the season. Of course, the Nets are still doing Nets-like things like hiring a general manager on the day of the Trade Deadline, but on the court, Brooklyn is undeniably playing better basketball and that counts for something in this space.
. (8-46). Previous: . Philadelphia 76ers. 4. team. 93.
It’s been a “status quo” week for the Sixers. Of course, Philadelphia only played one game since the last time we checked in, but it was a ho-hum 7-point defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans on the road. In short, that performance doesn’t do anything to affect Brett Brown’s team in this space.

Philadelphia has lost three in a row and seven out of eight games, but it is a miracle that they aren’t worse. I’m sure we seem like a broken record in this regard, but Brown has this team competing in a way that the roster indicates should be impossible, and they aren’t playing like the worst team in the NBA, even if the record says otherwise.

At 23-33, it hasn’t been a disastrous season in the Big Apple, but things aren’t going well lately.

First and foremost, the Knicks have lost seven straight games, including a double-digit loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Friday that didn’t exactly inspire confidence for the second half of the season. During that seven-game losing skid, New York has been outscored by 8.9 points per 100 possessions and, frankly, that isn’t competitive to the level of talent on the roster.

Reaching the playoffs should never have been the goal for this organization this year, but they made an interesting move in canning Derek Fisher in-season and every public statement for New York seems to include a push for the postseason. It is time to reassess that goal.
. (23-33). Previous: . New York Knicks. 3. team. 27
