NBA Trade Deadline 2016: Grading every team’s moves
Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets have been a difficult team to get a read on for much of the season, which obviously made it hard to gauge what they were going to try and do at the trade deadline. In essence, they really didn’t do a great deal and didn’t seem to be in too many discussions about many trades, save for the one that they did complete with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder sought improvement on the wing and highly coveted Nuggets guard Randy Foye. Though Foye is a fine player, he wasn’t doing much for the Nuggets this season with the likes of Will Barton and Gary Harris taking the bulk of the minutes at shooting guard for Denver this season. So that the Nuggets were able to turn a seldom-used player into D.J. Augustin and Steve Novak in addition to two second-round picks is really a nice haul for the Nuggets.
Being successful at a trade deadline isn’t always about the amount of activity, but rather about being smart about the moves that your team does make or doesn’t make. Given the haul they were able to get for Foye, you’d have to consider the Nuggets successful for maximizing his trade value.
