Fantasy Basketball: Should You Pick Up D.J. Augustin

In case you missed it last night D.J. Augustin had a pretty incredible game with 26 points, five assists, a steal, and two rebounds. Augustin was traded to the Nuggets at the deadline for Randy Foye and the Nuggets have wasted no time getting him acclimated to their system.

If you are in a 12 team league I would suggest you hurry up and add Augustin to your team as he may already not be available. He is obviously not going to deliver that kind of game every night, but he has already had two games in which he scored 20 points or more. Augustin is only 28-years-old and should still have juice left in the tank.

Augustin is certainly worth a pick-up in 12 team and larger leagues, but if I was in need of a point guard you could do a lot worse in standard leagues as well. Emmanuel Mudiay has struggled some this season and the addition of a veteran point guard to help run the offense could take some pressure off of him. Augustin and Mudiay were on the court together some in the waning minutes of their last game.

Augustin is not a player that I would recommend in dynasty or keeper league formats, but he could still be a sneaky addition due to the fact that he should see plenty of minutes and has shown the ability to be a fantasy difference maker. Of course he is not going to be the piece that puts you over the top, but he can get you on the right track.

Another player that I would like to suggest as a possible pick-up is Ty Lawson. He is said to be nearing a contract with the Indiana Pacers who have needed a point guard for years. This is a low-risk move for the Pacers as long as the price is right and could pay off huge for both parties. George Hill is a great player but is probably a much better shooting guard which could possibly pave the way for a starting gig for Lawson.

I am not rushing to add Lawson and at this point I might actually prefer Augustin over him, but Lawson has shown the ability to be a fantastic fantasy asset. He has been a difference maker for fantasy teams for seasons and hopefully he can get his groove back with a new team.
