Should You Pick Up Bobby Portis?

Bobby Portis looks like he may be getting his time to shine. The Bulls back-court has been depeleted due to injuries and now it gets even thinner. There is no timetable yet, but Taj Gibson strained his hamstring in a game on the first of March and did not return. Gibson has not really impressed much as of late anyway and Portis looks like he may be primed to make an impact the rest of this season for the Bulls.

Bobby Portis has over the past two weeks managed to get 10 points and eight rebounds on about 24 minutes per game. With the Gibson injury he should see a nice increase and should be a good play across most formats of fantasy basketball including daily leagues.

You should already have Portis rostered if you are playing in a dynasty league, but if you do not and he is floating around on the waiver wire somehow you need to act quickly and pick him up. With the way the Bulls contract are playing out this summer Portis could be a sneaky pick in even a more shallow keeper league format. As long as Portis continues to grow and develop his game he should be locked in for 32-36 minutes per game as the starting power forward next year.

More from Fantasy

Trading for him right now in a dynasty or a keeper league could be the best value that you are going to get in acquiring the young player. He has shown some pretty solid glimpses of his talent and flashes of upside that should not be ignored in fantasy basketball leagues.

I believe that even in re-draft leagues that Portis should be picked up right now. If Gibson misses any lengthy amounts of time than Portis is going to be a cog for your fantasy basketball team. With upwards of 30 minutes a game Portis should be a pretty solid double-double machine, and will likely increase his other stats as well.

We are talking about a player here who potentially could be a stud. Portis had admitted to hitting the rookie wall, but it looks like he has regained his composure and well on his way to making an impact for the Bulls for the rest of the season. You need to move on Portis and add him to your team before it is too late.
