NBA Rumors: Dave Joerger top candidate for Sacramento Kings?
By Jason Evans
Could Dave Joerger be on his way to the Sacramento Kings after being fired by the Memphis Grizzlies?
The Memphis Grizzles are going in a new direction at the head coaching position as they have let go of their head coach Dave Joerger according to Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski. Joerger had been seeking permission to interview for other jobs for the second year in a row which had a lot to do with it.
For Joerger, he may not be out of work for very long. According to Wojnarowski, the Sacramento Kings have made him their number one target to take over the head coaching position.
Joerger led the Grizzles to the NBA Playoffs in each of his three seasons as head coach. The Kings have not made the playoffs since 2005-06.
The Kings are moving into a new arena and have some cap room to play with (though everyone else does as well). Rajon Rondo is set to become a free agent.
The big question for Joerger is how he can get along with star big man DeMarcus Cousins. If Joerger and Cousins can co-exist then it’ll be a great hire. Joerger will be re-united with Rudy Gay who he coached with the Grizzles.
For Joerger, he can get a fresh start with a new team as the Kings again change course and continue their rebuilding process.
