Jarvis Cooper gets Memphis tattoo … then decides to transfer
The running back is transferring two months after getting a tattoo of himself in a Memphis uniform.
In case you needed another reminder that tattoos are permanent, may we present Jarvis Cooper.
The Memphis running back tweeted out a photo of his new back tattoo in early March. It shows Cooper carrying the rock in his No. 25 Memphis jersey.
No issues there. Plenty of athletes get tattoos reflecting their time with different teams or cities. But a news release issued Tuesday by Memphis coach Mike Norvell calls the tattoo into question.
After two years with the university, Cooper has been granted his release and will seek a transfer to another school.
"“Jarvis is a fine young man who has represented the University of Memphis well,” Norvell said in a statement. “With our current depth at running back, he is looking for an opportunity to be in a more featured role and for a fresh start. We wish him all the best in his future.”"
Well, this is … awkward? It certainly makes for an interesting story for Cooper to tell in the future.
In two years with Memphis, the 6-foot-1, 245-pound Cooper rushed for a combined 767 yards and nine touchdowns. It wasn’t exactly record-breaking production, and the Arkansas native is hoping to find a bigger role in a backfield elsewhere.
Cooper, to his credit, had some fun at his own expense Tuesday on Twitter after the school released the statement on his departure.
