As aforementioned, the Celtics and Grizzlies made a trade and swap of picks in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft. However, in this re-draft, the two sides don’t make that trade and therefore the Celtics keep the No. 20 overall pick in the first round.

With the Celtics first pick in the 2003 re-draft, Steve Blake was the pick to provide them with a steady point guard and someone who could have been a key rotational piece for many years to come on a team that would have taken a step up in talent.

With the No. 20 pick in the draft, there was still plenty of talent available and Travis Outlaw is the pick here in the re-draft. While the Celtics had Paul Pierce on the roster, adding another athletic wing with the tools to shoot the ball a little bit and be a member of the rotational is vital if you can get them at the No. 20 spot.

All of a sudden, the Celtics’ 2003 draft looks a lot better than it did originally and this team would have been far more competitive the following year and years down the line, then the team that would get swept in the first round by the Pacers.

It really goes to show the strength of the 2003 draft, when there are still players at the No. 20 spot that had a lot of longevity in the league.
