5. A deep roster around him

After LeBron James left the Miami Heat and went home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Heat were forced to go into a bit of a transition period. After missing the playoffs in their first year without James, Pat Riley and the front office did a tremendous job of building a team that was within one game of the Eastern Conference Finals a year later.

Add in the growth that should occur with their young players on the roster and the tremendous roster depth, the Heat could be back in the Eastern Conference Finals next year and contending for a spot in the NBA Finals.

Kevin Durant isn’t going to go to a team that is devoid of talent on the roster. He’s going to go to a roster that has great players in place already and are close to being contenders or are already contenders.

Durant going to Miami takes them from maybe contenders to definitive contenders and they could be considered the favorite by many to reach the NBA Finals and be the team that dethrones a LeBron James team in the Eastern Conference.

There are plenty of guys on the roster that can help Durant and he won’t be forced to carry the team.
