It took Mexico just four minutes to score their first goal of the historic Copa America Centenario on Sunday night, as Porto’s Hector Herrera managed to find the back of the net almost immediately after kickoff.

Mexico were given a difficult task for their opening match, taking on a talented Uruguay side. However, the vast majority of those in the house at the University of Phoenix Stadium were wearing green and creating quite the atmosphere for their team to play in.

The support from the crowd clearly had an impact, as Mexico got on the score sheet in just the fourth minute with a fantastic header from Hector Herrera. The 26-year-old managed to get on the end of a brilliant cross from Andres Guardado to score the first goal of the Copa America Centenario for his country.

Herrera has been a highly sought after target already this  summer, with Napoli eager to sign the midfielder to bolster their squad for the UEFA Champions League next season. His stock will have only risen even higher after Sunday’s opener.

Despite going down early, Uruguay should never be counted out, even without their star striker. Luis Suarez. He was ruled out Uruguay’s first  match with a right hamstring injury that he suffered in the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla.

Mexico will take on Jamaica next on June 9th, in their second match of the group stage. The Reggae Boyz were downed 1-0 to Venezuela in their first match of the competition and will be eager to pick up points against El Tri.
