3. Taj Gibson for Patrick Patterson

Having a stretch four that can hit threes is becoming a necessity in the NBA. Small ball is taking over the the NBA and for the Chicago Bulls Taj Gibson doesn’t fit that role. Patrick Patterson of the Raptors would be a perfect fit for the Bulls.

With Pau Gasol likely to opt of this contract, Chicago would be in desperate need of a big that can shoot from the outside. Gibson has attempted 22 threes in his seven year NBA career. The USC product has only hit one of those from down-town.

Toronto’s Patrick Patterson, well he is the opposite.  The former Wildcat has shot over 800 threes in his career and  has cashed in 317 of those trey balls. He has shot over 30% from the land beyond in the past  four seasons. He his a great player to use if the other teams go small. He can switch onto wing or post players and can contain a guard type after a pick and roll. Patterson can also adjust to systems and play the run and gun style Fred Hoiberg wants.

Why would the Raptors want Gibson? Simply, they’ll be in tough to keep Bismack Biyombo after his breakout postseason. Taj can bang with big boys in the paint and brings a relentless work ethic. Something they’ll be missing if Biyombo bolts to a big contract and a new team.
