NBA free agency 2016: Rockets to meet with Al Horford
The Rockets have reportedly secured a meeting with Al Horford to kick off NBA free agency 2016 on July 1
There was a time less than a year ago when everyone thought that the Houston Rockets were going to be contenders in the Western Conference this past season. That time now seems like forever ago as they barely managed to get the No. 8 seed in the West, were bounced in the first round, are saying goodbye to Dwight Howard in 2016 NBA free agency, and are now looking to try and regroup heading into the 2016-17 season.
You’d have to imagine that landing free agent center Al Horford would be a great way to start regrouping if you’re the Rockets.
According to a report from Mark Berman of Fox26 in Houston, that’s exactly where the Rockets plan to start in NBA free agency as Houston will have a meeting with Al Horford as free agency begins on July 1:
Horford is quite possibly the hidden gem in this crop of free agents this summer. While much of the talk even at the center position is focused on Howard or Hassan Whiteside, Horford has proven to be a highly valuable commodity and an All-Star caliber player over his career with the Atlanta Hawks.
Of course, the Rockets won’t be the only ones securing meetings with Al Horford in an effort to land the big man. However, that they’re getting a meeting right out of the gate is at least a positive sign to start if you’re Houston.
