2. Boone Logan

Logan is pretty much every reason that you would trade for Will Smith, except Logan is a little bit better. Logan has a bit of a higher ERA this season, but his FIP, XFIP, and career ERA show that he has been the better pitcher this year, and throughout their careers.

Logan has an ERA of 2.84 this season. He is doing that while striking out over 11 batters per nine innings. The high strikeout ability and doing this while playing the altitude of Coors Field shows high value. While Miller Park is not a much more pitcher friendly, those are the big differences that make Logan a better addition.

What Logan does not bring that Smith has is team control. Logan would be a free agent this year, and the Jays would really have to look in the mirror and decide if he is worth a contract extension.

They could see it as this being their big shot, and if Bautista and Encarnacion are to walk, it is better not to have any names on the payroll. They could also see the idea of Smith assuming the role Cecil held down moving forward making Smith a more valuable asset.

Either way, both Smith and Logan are two names that will be a lot easier to get their hands on than someone like Andrew Miller. It may be a cheaper way to upgrade the bullpen and still remain effective.
