14. Soldier Field

Given its name and age, Chicago’s Soldier Field has to make the list of North American sports stadiums most likely to be haunted. Soldier Field is 92 years old and is dedicated to United States military members who have lost their lives in the line of combat.

Soldier Field is one of the NFL’s preeminent stadiums, so it may shock you to learn the Bears didn’t start playing there until 1971. Before then, they played on the North Side of town at Wrigley Field.

Soldier Field also housed the NFL’s greatest ever defense. The 1985 Bears, led on defense by Buddy Ryan, demolished their opposition with the then innovative 46 Defense, going 15-1 and winning the Super Bowl over the overwhelmed New England Patriots.

There are now at least two ghosts that venture to Soldier Field: star running back Walter Payton and the recently departed defensive coordinator Ryan, both members of the ’85 Bears. Mr. Everything himself, George Halas, stopped coaching the Bears in 1967, but he probably makes the trek out to Soldier Field once in a while as well.
