One of the most requested Pokemon GO features might be imminent, along with those pesky Legendary Pokemon.

If you want to know what’s coming soon to a game like Pokemon GO, it helps to be able to dig around in the code.

You might not be able to do that. But a lot of Reddit users can, which is the next best thing. And some of them have discovered that some things many mobile gamers have been waiting for in Pokemon GO might be right around the corner.

As reported by BGR, one of those is trading. Phrases found within the game’s code suggest that you’ll be able to list your own Pokemon for trade and see which creatures are being offered by other players. Smart money suggests proximity will play a role.

Other enticing new features or additions that could arrive as soon as the next big update:

  • Legendary Pokemon, the presence of whom has been a much-debated topic ever since Pokemon GO first launched.
  • The ability to choose a specific Pokemon as a buddy, similar to the way that Ash and his Pikachu were BFFs.
  • Incense that will work on specific types of Pokemon.
  • Support for VR, though BGR notes that could make the game’s already dubious safety record even dicier.

While Pokemon GO has received multiple updates, Niantic has yet to add anything that would count as a major boost to the game’s content. That could be needed soon, because data suggests that it could already be fading in popularity.

The game has fallen out of the top 20 free apps in the U.S., though that could be partly due to the fact that everyone interested in playing already seems to have it. More crucially for Niantic and Nintendo, it remains the top-grossing app in all the land, though staying on top of that list isn’t always easy.

Trading and some other new features could help. We’ll see if we get them while the weather is still nice enough for people to be outside playing regularly.
