Cam Newton dumped the “dab” and debuted a new celebration when he scored a touchdown against the Denver Broncos in the season opener.

Cam Newton’s touchdown celebrations were worth noting during the 2015 NFL season. He drew some attention for doing the popular “dab” dance move after scoring. It didn’t matter where or when, but he always did it during the games.

As for the 2016 season, it seems Newton decided to scrap the “dab” and debut a new dance. He did so after scoring a touchdown against the Broncos to put Carolina up 14-7 in the second quarter on Thursday night.

Minutes before this, he drew a “Super Bowl” chant from the Denver fans, referring to the outcome of Super Bowl 50, which saw the Broncos defeat the Panthers. This came about after he got into a brief incident with Broncos defender T.J. Ward. So, Newton had to have enjoyed doing the following moves for the crowd.

This dance apparently has a name, known as the “Milly Rock.” A clip of this can be seen below, which debuted in 2014, so it’s not a particularly “new” dance.

Given Newton’s popularity, though, fans will probably post videos of themselves on social media doing this sooner than later. It’s somewhat similar with the “dab” from 2015.

With the rate that this All-Pro quarterback scored touchdowns in 2015, we should expect to see plenty more of this. This will ruffle some feathers, and may draw an opinion or two from the hot take crowd, but as long as he doesn’t break a rule, it will continue.

As for Cam Newton’s non-dance moves, he’ll be relied on by the Panthers throughout the 2016 season. If Carolina wants to make the Super Bowl again, they’ll need a second MVP performance. Will they be able to do this by the winter of 2017, even with the “Milly Rock” lingering?

The Panthers lead the Broncos 17-7 in Denver at the half.
