1. The coronation of the Cubs

The Chicago Cubs waited 108 years to win a World Series and they are already the heavy favorites for the 2017 season. The baseball world may have witnessed the beginnings of baseball’s next great dynasty. The Cubs are that good and that young at nearly every position on the diamond. Seriously, Joe Maddon will be tasked next year with finding a way to find at-bats for Kyle Schwarber, Javy Baez, Jorge Soler, Willson Contreras, and Ben Zobrist.

Theo Epstein has assembled an embarrassment of riches in the Windy City, and as hard as it may be to believe, the Cubs may still be on the way up. There are many similarities between the 2016 World Series and the 2001 Series between the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks, another epic seven-gamer that captured the attention of the nation. In that series, however, the Yankees dynasty was on its last legs. The Cubs dynasty is just learning how to crawl.

For years, the Cubs had been baseball’s lovable losers, more of a laughingstock than anything else. The alleged curse barely mattered because the Cubs were rarely in position to even contend for a title. At least the Red Sox managed to blow several World Series chances and pennant races during the life of the Curse of the Bambino. The 2016 World Series had everything you could ask for in a Fall Classic, and seeing the Cubs emerge as a dynasty in the making after decades and decades of misfortune is the icing on the cake.
