Derek Carr injury update: Raiders QB dislocated finger in two spots
By John Buhler
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr suffered an injury to his pinky finger on his throwing hand on Sunday. It seems it is dislocated in two spots.
Though the Oakland Raiders were able to achieve its first winning season since 2002 by beating the Carolina Panthers at home by a field goal, Oakland did see its star quarterback Derek Carr suffer a ghastly injury on his throwing hand.
His pinky finger on his throwing hand got caught under center and it looked all sorts of mangled early in the third quarter Sunday. According to Carr’s older brother David Carr, his younger brother “dislocated his finger in two places”. It isn’t broken, but ouch.
Carr had to briefly leave the game on Sunday to try to get his finger back into place. He was reportedly screaming from the catacombs of the decrepit O.co Coliseum. After an offensive series off, Carr would go back in over his backup Matt McGloin.
Carr played with a special glove on his throwing hand to finish out the game against the Panthers. One would have to believe that he will be wearing the glove for Sunday’s home game against the physical 6-5 Buffalo Bills.
Oakland has gotten off to an incredible 9-2 due in large part to Carr’s charisma at the quarterback position. The Raiders will give up points in the secondary and the running game fluctuates. Should this twice dislocated finger hinder Carr’s overall effectiveness as a passer, this could have a negative impact on the Raiders down the home stretch.

This seems to be the best Raiders team since 2002’s AFC Championship team. Oakland is bound to make the 2016 AFC Playoffs, but a drop in Carr’s play might take the Raiders from division winners to a wild card team.
