After much speculation about their return, Jeff and Matt Hardy shocked everyone still with their return at WWE WrestleMania 33

Jeff and Matt Hardy entered Saturday night as the ROH Tag Team Champions. In Orlando for the weekend of wrestling, they faced the Young Bucks in a ladder match for the belts at ROH Supercard of Honor XI. Unfortunately, they lost—but that was really all part of the plan. With WWE WrestleMania 33, speculation had been running wild that the Hardy Boyz would return to the company for the first time in over seven years.

However, the thought was that, even if they returned, it likely wouldn’t be at WrestleMania 33. The ladder match they had on Saturday night with the Young Bucks was exceptionally brutal. What’s more, the only men’s tag team match at Mania was another ladder match, for the RAW Tag Team Championships.

But after Gallows & Anderson, Enzo & Cass and Cesaro & Sheamus made their way to the ring, the WrestleMania 33 hosts, the New Day came out. They said they’d just been informed that this was a Fatal 4-Way Ladder Match. Then, they teased who the fourth entrant could be before the Hardys music hit—and the crowd in Orlando went berserk:

Even if you knew that they were coming (no one did), this moment was absolutely incredible. Not only is it great to have them back, but it happened to be in a ladder match. They’re innovators in the style and are two of the best to ever do it.

So to see them back in the WWE ring—at WrestleMania 33, no less—was truly one of the moments that every fan will remember from Sunday night. And they made that even more so the case:

In their first match back in seven years, the Hardy Boyz were able to capture the belts from atop the ladder. They’re now the new RAW Tag Team Champions and the rest of the division is now obsolete.
