NBA Free Agency 2017: 5 offseason targets for the Milwaukee Bucks
5. Thabo Sefolosha
Sefolosha would be a solid low end acquisition for Milwaukee. Thabo is not a big name, but he fits Milwaukee’s style of play. Sefolosha’s primary contribution to this Bucks team would be on the defensive end. He has a long wingspan that makes him an effective player in switching schemes. He’s not a stopper that can shut down elite wing players for extended runs of play, but he could still give 20-25 good minutes per night at age 33.
Thabo’s offensive game has many weaknesses. His 3-point shot comes and goes. He’s not as inaccurate as Tony Allen, but teams often abandon him behind the arc. Sefolosha’s shot also takes an eternity to release by NBA standards, which makes him an easy player to close out on if teams actually try to guard him. These weaknesses could cramp Milwaukee’s already iffy spacing.
The Bucks often make their offense work without great shooting though. Sefolosha could be part of some wacky lineups that feature Giannis, Middleton and Snell that could switch almost every opponent action. Thabo will also be available on the cheap, considering his age and his offensive limitations. That’s important for a team that could brush up against the tax this summer. He might not be available at the veteran minimum, but offering Sefolosha the Bi-annual Exception should do the trick.
