NBA Free Agency: Thabo Sefolosha agrees to two-year deal with Utah Jazz

According to reports, lockdown defender Thabo Sefolosha has agreed to a two-year deal with the Utah Jazz.

Thabo Sefolosha has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Utah Jazz. According to The Vertical’s Shams Charania, Sefolosha agreed to a two-year, $10.5 million deal.

After losing Gordon Hayward to the Boston Celtics in free agency, the Jazz needed an extra hand at the small forward position. Sefolosha, who spent the last three seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, is a good fit for the team. The wing is a reliable lockdown defender (he was part of the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2010) who can also knock down open 3-pointers.

In addition to that, he has plenty of experience. He has played in the NBA for eleven years and has gone to the playoffs eight times. In five of those eight visits to the post-season, Sefolosha played an important role in helping the Oklahoma City Thunder contend for the title. He was often tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best perimeter player. He has gone to the NBA Finals once and to the Western Conference Finals twice. With all this experience, he will be a great mentor for all the young guys on the Jazz roster.

Sefolosha will most likely not get the starting position. However, he will probably get plenty of minutes off the bench and will most likely be one of the team’s primary perimeter defenders (alongside Joe Ingles).

Last season, Sefolosha, who turned 33 years old back in May, played 62 games (started 42 of them) and in 25.7 minutes per game, he averaged 7.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals. For his career, he holds averages of 5.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game.

Sefolosha was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2006 with the 13th overall pick.
