Cody Bellinger became the first rookie to ever hit a cycle for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Marlins.
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman and outfielder Cody Bellinger just became the first rookie in franchise history to hit a cycle against the Miami Marlins on Saturday.
He hit a single in the first inning and a two-run home-run in the third and followed that up with a double in the fourth.
It was his triple in the seventh inning that would increase the Dodgers lead to 7-0 and complete the cycle.
Next: Best MLB player from each state
Bellinger is the fifth player to hit a cycle this season in the MLB and the fifth Dodger to hit a cycle since World War II. He’s joined the ranks of Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Wes Parker and Orlando Hudson. He is only the third Dodger to hit for the cycle since the team moved from Brooklyn, New York to Los Angeles, CA.
The Dodgers are currently ranked first in the National League West and hold the best record in MLB with 62 wins and only 29 losses. If the Dodgers defeat the Marlin’s today they will extend their win streak to eight. Their last defeat was to the San Diego Padres in early July. Bellinger has 68 hits and a batting average of .261.
The last Dodger to hit for a cycle was Hudson on April 13, 2009.
The Dodgers have had some of the best rookies in MLB history, in fact, the team has won more Rookie of the Year awards (17) than any other team. The first ROTY award ever was given to Robinson in 1947. Other notable Dodgers ROTY winners are Fernando Valenzuela, Mike Piazza and Corey Seager).
Bellinger has had a standout career this season and is looking well placed to be the next Dodger bestowed with that award.
