MLB Trade Deadline 2017: 5 best spots for Hunter Pence
By John Buhler
From the looks of it, the Colorado Rockies will likely be one of the five teams in the National League getting into the postseason this fall. Colorado has come alive under new manager Bud Black and will be a menace for whomever the Rockies play this postseason.
While the Rockies may not catch the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, it’s all the more reason for them to get a clutch player like Pence to come aboard for the win-or-go-home NL Wild Card Game Colorado will likely be playing in.
Trading with a division rival may be what inevitably sinks a potential deal between the Giants and the Rockies. However, Colorado could definitely use an outfielder like Pence for its postseason push. The Rockies are in a strange spot where they actually need a bat. Could Pence be that bat to make some noise in the Rockies’ lineup after outfielder Charlie Blackmon and third baseman Nolan Arenado?
Potentially, but the Rockies will have to give the rival Giants a few solid prospects to make that deal happen. Are we sure that the Rockies want to help a rival out in their farm system? Probably not, but Pence is the type of player that can show this Rockies corps how to win in October. It’s not like the Rockies have been in postseason races all that many times before.
