Rams have our attention with decisive victory over Jaguars
By John Buhler
The Los Angeles Rams defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-17 on Sunday afternoon in Week 6.
As one of the most hyped matchups of Week 6, the game that went down in North Florida between the Los Angeles Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars did not disappoint. Two of the best young running backs this league has to offer in Leonard Fournette and Todd Gurley certainly left their mark.
At the end of the day, the Rams proved to be the better team and they got out of EverBank Field with a 27-17 victory over the Jaguars. Los Angeles improves to 4-2, while Jacksonville stumbles to 3-3 on the season.
Rams return man Pharoh Cooper took the opening kickoff 103 yards to the house. On the first offensive possession for the Jaguars, Fournette would find pay dirt of the 75-yard variety to tie it up at 7.
The Rams would lead 17-14 through the first quarter, but where the game ultimately swung in Los Angeles’ favor was on a blocked punt recovered and returned for a touchdown by Malcolm Brown late in the second quarter. Los Angeles led 24-14 going into halftime and never looked back.
Jason Meyers and Greg Zuerlein would add field goals for both teams, but this one went the Rams’ way once the defense settled after a Blake Bortles touchdown pass to Chris Ivory in the first quarter.
These are two good teams, but we might have overvalued Jacksonville a bit. Their offense is largely contingent on Fournette running the ball on every single play, as well as getting pick-sixes from the secondary. Still, while Houston might be the team to beat in that division, Jacksonville does have the head-to-head tiebreaker. Jacksonville will need to regroup, but this is a different Jaguars team than in recent years.
As for Los Angeles, we need to seriously start considering the Rams not just as a wild card team, but as a possible NFC West winner. Sure, they lost to division rival Seattle last week, but the Rams are a strong 4-2 with no embarrassing losses on the year.
