What you missed this week in the NBA: Cavaliers, Embiid, weed
5. Streaks
Beginning in the East, the Boston Celtics keep on rolling. So much so that before Thursday night’s matchup, after Tuesday’s practice, Warriors coach Steve Kerr commented on Boston to ESPN’s Chris Haynes:
"“It sure looks like Boston is the team of the future in the East, with the assets that they still have and their young talent and their coaching, and Kyrie is amazing,” Kerr said after practice Tuesday. “That looks like a team that is going to be at the top of the East for a long time to come. Whether their time is now or the future, that’s to be determined, but they sure look like they want it to be right now.”"
The Celtics hold the NBA’s best record at 13-2. They’re on a 13-game win streak (prior to Thursday’s matchup with the Warriors). Meanwhile, the Bucks have yet to lose a game with Eric Bledsoe. The Bucks and Wizards continue to climb up the standings in the East, both on four-game win streaks. In addition, the Cavaliers look to have finally figured things out as they have now won four-straight.
Over in the West, things are a little less exciting. The Warriors have won seven consecutive games (before Thursday’s matchup against Boston) and they continue to reign supreme in the Western Conference. Much like the Cavaliers, the Thunder seem to have found their groove, as well. Oklahoma City has taken home a win in three-straight, despite being plagued by injuries in its starting rotation. In addition to three-straight W’s, the Thunder can now claim to have a win over a conference opponent.
Quite possibly the most shocking streak of all, however, is the streak out in Los Angeles. The Clippers are on a six-game skid after one of the hottest opening weeks in the league. They’ve managed to slip to 12th in the West, out of the playoff picture and below .500.
