The Four: Battle for Stardom’s series premiere on Fox is this Thursday, Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. ET. The vocal competition series will be hosted by Fergie and features a panel of judges: Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, DJ Khaled, Meghan Trainor and record label executive Charlie Walk. The winner of the six-episode event will receive the grand prize of a recording contract with Republic Records (via Universal Music Group) and the title of iHeartMedia’s “On the Verge” artist.
In a fresh take on the reality singing competition, four elite vocalists will go up against rising new artists each week. The four vocalists will have their “seats” at stake so to speak, because if a newcomer upstages them, they’re dethroned. Every successful defense against competition means their dreams are that much closer to their grasp. Yet, all it takes is one hungry young talent’s roaring vocals to snatch that dream from their fingertips.
It’s a sports-like gladiatorial singing competition where you have to outsing the best to be the best. The Four’s formula of directly defeating others to maintain your chances in the industry taps into a “breaking the fourth wall” kind of appeal. Art imitating life, the musician’s life.
