The second round of the 2018 Masters Tournament is in the books. Let’s take a moment and check out who is toward the top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend at Augusta.

Following a dominant round one performance, the morning groupings opened Friday at The Masters chasing the 6-under lead set by Jordan Spieth. The sunny yet windy conditions at Augusta yielded quick moving greens and tricky iron shots for the entire field. Even the 2015 Masters champion couldn’t avoid the pitfalls of the famous course, especially in the early going.

Right out of the gate, Spieth dropped three shots beginning the day double bogey and bogey on the first two holes. Without having to hit a club, those trailing at 4-under quickly found themselves atop the leaderboard. Spieth rebounded on the back nine, carding two birdies to salvage a 2-over round of 74 to sit at 4-under for the tournament.

After an opening round 3-under, the chase to complete golf’s Grand Slam is within reach for Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy. An up and down front nine on Friday brought two birdies and three bogeys to open up at 1-over for the day. Back to back birdies at 13 and 14 brought McIlory back to 1-under and tied with Spieth for fourth place, one shot out of third place with Henrik Stenson at 5-under.

The first major moments of round two come courtesy of Australia’s Marc Leishman. The three-time PGA Tour winner began his second round with three straight birdies to gain the lead at 5-under. Leishman went birdie-bogey at 13 and 14 before dialing in with an eagle at the par-5 15th to get to 7-under and sole possession of second place.

While many competitors had difficulty navigating Augusta National on Friday, “Captain America” had no such issues. The Ryder Cup stand-out Patrick Reed worked his way across the course carding 10 total birdies including six on the front nine.

Reed carded a 69 on day one and then followed it with a second round 66 to get to 9-under for the tournament and the outright, two-stroke lead heading into the weekend quest for the green jacket.
