With eight games remaining, Roma are third in Serie A, three points ahead of city rivals Lazio for the final Champions League spot. On Saturday, Roma host Fiorentina, who are ninth in the table, level on points with Atalanta and Sampdoria.
On Wednesday, Roma were easily defeated 4-1 by Barcelona in Champions League. Domestically, Roma have won six of their last eight games, picking up 19 points. Edin Dzeko scored the lone goal Wednesday and leads the club with 14 goals in Serie A. However, Dzeko might struggle to get service with Radja Nainggolan dealing with a quad injury. Nainggolan was left out of the Champions League squad and has not played since suffering the injury on March 31. The Belgium international is the workhorse in the middle of the field for Roma. Without Nainggolan, Eusebio Di Francesco will likely start Alessandro Florenzi or Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Fiorentina have won five straight games, conceding only once over that stretch to move into the top half of the table. Stefano Pioli’s side have been one of the better defensively clubs in Serie A, allowing only 33 goals. Offensively, the Viola lean heavily on Giovanni Simeone and Federico Chiesa, who have combined for 15 goals and 11 assists this season. Simeone and Chiesa are two of the most promising young talents in Serie A. If Fiorentina are able to hang onto both players, they could be a very good team for years to come.
