The Golden State Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. They’ll look to make it 3-0 in San Antonio on Thursday night.

No Steph Curry, no problem. No Kawhi Leonard, big problem. The Warriors handed the Spurs a second straight double-digit defeat on Monday night as Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson continued to power one of the league’s top offenses while awaiting Curry’s return from a Grade 2 MCL Sprain.

Durant poured in 32 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field while Thompson added 31 of his own, finishing 12-of-20 with five made 3-pointers. Golden State continues to remake its offense in Curry’s absence by running actions through its other two superstars.

San Antonio, meanwhile, looks outmatched by both the Warriors’ immense talent level (yes, even without Curry) and Leonard’s looming sabbatical, a frequent off-court conversation topic. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is regularly being peppered about the status of his superstar, but it continues to look like the 26-year old will miss the remainder of the postseason as he rehabs from injury.

Next: We can reimagine Kevin Durant

If San Antonio is unable to muster a win in Game 3 on Thursday night, the questions about Leonard’s future with the organization will only grow louder despite reports indicating the front office has no plans to move the star.

Ultimately, the outcome of this individual game will likely have a minimal impact on the overall series result. Golden State remains the better of the two teams by a wide margin, but a Spurs victory could provide a nice reprieve from some of the franchise’s off-court distractions.
