5. Liverpool and Chelsea fight for fourth place

There’s only one really important thing that’s left to be decided this weekend and that’s fourth place. The team who finishes there will of course be guaranteed Champions League soccer next season.

Liverpool and Chelsea are both vying for that position and right now the Reds are the ones who look likely to take it. Jurgen Klopp’s team only need a point in their home match against Brighton while Chelsea need to win away at Newcastle.

That suggests that this should be very straightforward for the Merseyside club, but soccer is one of the most unjust sports in the world and who knows what might happen. Chelsea know only a win and a Liverpool loss will be good enough so the Blues will be at their best to take all three points at St. James’ Park.

The exciting thing about all the games kicking off simultaneously is that both sets of fans will know what’s going on and the players will be able to sense that. If Chelsea get an early goal at Newcastle and Liverpool haven’t scored by half-time then the Reds fans could become a little agitated.

Liverpool have been great at home all season and it’s unlikely they’ll lose but equally a little excitement couldn’t hurt. The Reds do things the hard way, best demonstrated by their Champions League semifinal which they led 5-0 and only ended up winning 7-6.
