30 college football head coaches cooler than your coolest uncle
Completely changing the course of a program is a huge accomplishment for any head coach, and that looks to be exactly what Tom Herman is doing for the Texas Longhorns in Austin now. It’s too short of time to officially judge how his tenure will go, but the 2018 campaign will be very telling of the current state of the program.
Herman came over from the Houston Cougars, which gave way to Major Applewhite there. He took a program that struggled to become bowl eligible under Charlie Strong and took it to win a postseason game over a former Big 12 foe in the Mizzou Tigers.
That seven-win campaign last year should be garnering Texas some more hype for this season, although the Horns seemingly always have enough preseason hype going their way. Herman is starting to make the college football world realize that Texas can be back sooner than expected.
Especially with the job he’s doing on the recruiting trail, Herman is doing a great job impressing some of the top high school talents in the nation too. This is a head coach that could steadily climb up a list like this as time goes along in the coming years.
