MLB DFS Bargain Bin- Tout Transparency Report

Before we get to today’s MLB DFS Bargain Bin recommendations, we’ll look back at how Sunday’s MLB DFS Bargain Bin play suggestions did in the MLB DFS Bargain Bin Tout Transparency Report.

In the interest of transparency and of tracking trends, I’ll do a quick review after each day in which I suggest value plays to see what went right, and what didn’t exactly work out as planned.

Sunday saw another value pitcher in Clayton Richard deliver the goods on his bargain price, as the Padres lefty even carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. While that ultimately went by the wayside, Richard was able to come through with his sixth quality start in seven outings to provide a handsome return on his price.

It was also a particularly good day for our alternate/Yahoo-only suggestions, as Elias Diaz – a Twitter (@jcblanco22) recommendation after Brian McCann was announced out of the lineup – continued his season-long trend of solid hitting, Matt Carpenter also extended a multi-week hot streak at the plate and Gregory Polanco helped break the Pirates-Cubs game wide open with a bases-clearing triple, rewarding those who snapped him up at a meager $12 on Yahoo.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, it was a rough day for the Orioles against the Blue Jays in what would have appeared to be a plum matchup going in saw primary outfield option Adam Jones come up empty and then lose at least one at-bat when he got pulled for a pinch hitter in the seventh.

MLB DFS Bargain Bin- Tout Transparency Report

MLB DFS Bargain Bin Best Value(s):

Richard, Polanco headline successes–Richard’s success validated the Marlins’ poor metrics against left-handed pitching at Marlins Park, and his squad provided him enough run support to make his stellar efforts worthwhile. Polanco generated one of the bright spots of his mostly frustrating season with his aforementioned timely three-bagger, and the likes of Yangervis Solarte and Carpenter also enjoyed productive, multi-hit afternoons.

MLB DFS Bargain Bin Biggest Dud(s):

Jones, Sanchez quiet– The entire Orioles offense played as if shell-shocked as their Blue Jays counterparts continued to rain punishment down on their pitching, and Jones was part of the malaise of inefficiency. Meanwhile, Sanchez could replicate the success that quite a few left-handed hitters have had against Rick Porcello at Fenway, with the run he scored the only thing keeping him from being blanked altogether.

Let’s now look at a player-by-player fantasy-point breakdown for each value play I’d suggested for Sunday, June 10th:

With our look back now complete, time to turn our attention to finding bargains for today’s slates!

MLB DFS Bargain Bin- Monday June 11

Welcome to the Monday edition of the MLB DFS Bargain Bin, where the goal is to provide a general overview of the night’s eight-game ledger and touch on where the weakest pitching spots might be, and by extension, where there may be some value bats to consider. Additionally, I’ll look to identify where a value arm might be intersecting with an offense that’s running cold or is otherwise inefficient against a certain handedness.

Before we go bargain hunting, a few particulars about both format and content:

  • The nature of the beast with value plays is at least a modest amount (and sometimes substantially more) of risk. After all, these players are usually priced where they are for a reason. Therefore, the Bargain Bin may prove to be a bit more of a rollercoaster ride on some slates than your typical ā€œtoutā€ article!
  • Naturally, that doesn’t mean there isn’t upside to be had. All of these selections are therefore suitable for GPPs (and usually avoidable for cash games), and they can often help you accommodate multiple higher-priced studs into your lineup.
  • Typically, I’ll suggest players that are value-priced across all four major DFS sites (Yahoo, FanDuel, DraftKings and FantasyDraft).Ā  However, there are certainly occasions, particularly with Yahoo, where one site prices a player significantly lower than others. Whenever possible, I’ll typically at least note those players as a ā€œXYZ site-only specialā€.
  • On occasions when FanDuel lists a player at a different position than the other sites, I’ll note it in the player’s entry.
  • This version of the Bargain Bin isn’t a position-by-position breakdown in terms of the hitters. Rather, I try to identify where there is a particular vulnerability in terms of pitchers on the slate. Naturally, the amount of pitchers I suggest to target and the corresponding amount of value hitters to target them with will vary by slate.
  • The goal is to recommend truly affordable players, as opposed to, say, a player priced just $300-$400 away from the highest-priced option at his position. I don’t have set-in-stone price limits in mind for each site, but I do consider legitimate affordability a very important criteria.

With those housekeeping items out-of-the-way, let’s take a look at where there’s cash to be saved on Monday’s MLB Slate!:

MLB DFS Bargain Bin- Value Pitching Spot to Consider

Wade LeBlanc, SEA vs. LAA- Yahoo ($35)/ FanDuel ($6,600)/ DraftKings ($6,600)/ FantasyDraft ($12,700)

LeBlanc draws a matchup against an Angels squad that’s dead last in the majors with a .141 average, .208 wOBA and 29 wRC+ against left-handed pitching on the road over the last month of play (95 plate appearances). The one drawback on LeBlanc is that he hasn’t gone very deep into games, topping out at six innings. However, he does have the ability to generate a quality start any time he takes the mound and brings some decent strikeout potential.

Moreover, the cumulative slash line of current Angels who’ve faced him in his career isĀ  .215/.329/.338 over 65 at-bats, although it’s important to note that the sample doesn’t include Mike Trout. It does, however, include Justin Upton, who’s just 2-for-22 (.091) with five strikeouts against the lefty.

The Angels offense has been modest overall on the road this month, generating a paltry .287 wOBA over their 112 plate appearances away from home thus far in June.
