St. Louis Cardinals

Raisel Iglesias, RP

As the season was starting, the Cardnals made a last ditch effort to fix their bullpen by signing Greg Holland. Well, the Cardinals are right in the thick of the playoff race, with a 60% chance of making the playoffs, but the Greg Holland experiment didn’t work. This year, he has a 9.45 ERA and is currently sitting on the disabled list.

So, clearly the Cardinals need to solve their bullpen woes. The young flame thrower Jordan Hicks can’t throw the ball past every hitter. While players like Kelvin Herrera and Zach Britton are available as stopgaps for this year, the Cardinals organization has been one that prefers to do things from the ground up.

Raisel Iglesias is under contract through 2020 and can be used to create a great bullpen duo with Hicks. There have been discussions about trading him for a while now, with the Twins showing the most interest. He could come in as the the right-hander the Cardinals didn’t get in Greg Holland.

This year, Igleasias has a 2.25 ERA, a stat that he has consistently improved through his time in the MLB. This year, he is also striking out about 11 batters every 9 innings and is stranding 98% of runners who he ether inherits or puts on base. The only area he has struggled in is giving up home runs. Luckily for him, Busch Stadium has been one of the best ballparks for preventing home runs. The Cardinals should trade for the future of their bullpen.
