Steve Kerr might be coaching the Golden State Warriors for a couple more decades if you take him at his word.

Steve Kerr recently signed a contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, and that was a no-brainer on both sides. The deal will make him one of the league’s most highly paid coaches. Kerr said after winning the 2018 NBA Finals that he would need the money to pay off a new house in San Francisco.

That’s obviously a joke, but it’s a funny one if you’ve ever been apartment or house hunting in San Fran. The exact terms of his contract aren’t currently public, but Yahoo Sports is reporting Kerr will at least double the $5 million per year that he was making before.

Kerr is 265-63 in the regular season and 63-20 in the playoffs. The Warriors won the title in his first year as coach, and they have now prevailed in three out of four campaigns. That resume will get you a healthy contract.

He had a distinguished career as a player, too. He was lucky to be sure. On the way to five championships, the shooting guard enjoyed time with Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls and Tim Duncan’s San Antonio Spurs.

Kerr became a head coach for the first time in 2014, and at times sat out due to complications after back surgery. But the Warriors seem confident that he can keep coaching for a long time, especially after signing him to this extension.

Something tells me Kerr will be able to pay off that mortgage quickly, and he could probably even add a new wing to the house now.
