St. Louis Cardinals: Kolten Wong

The St. Louis Cardinals have been one of the more impressive franchises in baseball for quite some time now, though they are starting to fall behind in the NL Central. The Chicago Cubs are currently the class of the division, and the Milwaukee Brewers went out and really bolstered their roster this Winter.

In 2018, the Cardinals find themselves in third place behind those two teams entering July, and are in danger of missing the playoffs for the third straight season. They need to make some moves to bolster this roster, and trading away a veteran second baseman looks like a good idea.

For a while, Kolten Wong was a very productive second baseman for the Cardinals. Wong actually hit .285 for the Redbirds last season, but he has been extremely anemic with the lumber during the 2018 campaign.

Heading into July 1, Wong was hitting below the Mendoza Line for the Cardinals, and is starting to become a liability for the team. While the Cardinals likely would not get a ton back for him, he could bring back some prospects, as he is still only 27-years old.

The Cardinals have to have a run in them this season, as they have the talent on their roster to at least be a Wild Card team. Manager Mike Matheny is one of the best in the game, but he can only play the players he has, and trotting out Wong everyday to play second base is not in the best interest of the team moving forward.
