Rafael Nadal – Real Madrid

Perennial winners. Sustained success over a long period of time. A fierce rivalry with one of the game’s true titans and legendary figures. Often does their best work wearing white. If you’re a soccer fan, you’re probably thinking of Real Madrid. If you’re a tennis fan, you might be thinking of Rafael Nadal.

Nadal is one of tennis’ biggest stars. His 17 Grand Slam titles are the second most of all time, behind only Roger Federer’s 20. Nadal has won the French Open a record 11 times, and an Olympic gold medal in 2008.

He is also one of the biggest Real Madrid fans in the world, constantly making his affinity for the club apparent. Real fans even used his likeness as a tifo, a giant image unfurled in the stands, in their Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain last season.

Though Nadal maintains that he is a Real Madrid supporter through and through, he also has lent his support (and in some cases his influence) to other clubs in Spain. Nadal became a shareholder in Real Mallorca, his local club. The decision to buy shares in Mallorca came at a time when the club was on the precipice of financial insolvency.

He is also an avid supporter of the Spanish national team, even joining them in the locker room to celebrate their victory in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. That team included several Real Madrid players, including Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas, and Xabi Alonso. Nadal has definitely made his home country proud, and he respects and admires the soccer players who have done the same.
