Monday Night Football – Draftkings Showdown Slate Advice
By Chris Brent
The DraftKings Monday Night Football showdown slates offers players a chance to win big even with only one game taking place. Here is how it works:
Welcome back readers! Thursday Night Football had some profitable results for me and if you read my Thursday Night preview it was profitable for you as well. Hopefully we can carry those results on to Monday Night Football.
If you read my content for the Thursday Night Football game, I ended up going with this in cash:
1.5x Captain: Todd Gurley (38.40 DraftKings Points)
Flex: Adam Thielen (30.50 Draftkings Points)
Flex: Kirk Cousins (35.68 Draftkings Points)
Flex: Cooper Kupp (40.20 Draftkings Points)
Flex: Dan Bailey (12 Draftkings Points)
Flex: Sam Ficken (8 Draftkings Points)
This build was good enough for 164.78 DraftKing Points which was good enough to minimum cash in tournaments, hit cash games and was able to win 90% of my head to head contest.
The highest scoring player on the slate was Jared Goff, who lit up the Minnesota defense for 465 yards passing and five passing touchdowns. Thursday Night definitely brought on a good game and Monday Night Football should deliver a similar experience.
So lets dive in:
Monday Night Football features the Kansas City Chiefs traveling to Denver to play the Broncos. The sportsbooks are projecting an offensive shootout as they have the over/ under listed and 55 with the Chiefs favored by 4-points. The Chiefs onslaught has already taken down over one million dollars so far this season, can they do it in Denver? Will Patrick Mahomes stay hot?
Who are we playing at Captain on Week 4 Monday Night Football?
Monday Night Football – Captain Spot
Reminder, the captain spot rewards you 1.5-times the regular amount of fantasy points scored by your player, however it also cost you 1.5-times more than their regular price. In order to win a tournament, you are going to need to find the highest scorer and have them in your captain spot to gain leverage on the field. Monday’s night captain can be a bunch of players, I could see it going multiple ways, however, you’re here so I can narrow it down for you.
Cash Games:
Demaryius Thomas, DEN ($11,100)
This is as good of a matchup as it’s going to get for Thomas this season. The Chiefs are a very giving defense allowing 1,422; which is the third most total yards allowed in the NFL this season. I did not think I would be recommending using Thomas at the captain position on this slate, in fact, before digging in and looking at pricing, I didn’t even plan to use him at all. The matchup is screaming Emmanuel Sanders, but my lineup construction is not allowing for that build. This spot is all about volume, and potential upside. Thomas has the skill set to be the highest scoring player on the slate and currently leads the Broncos in targets through the first three weeks with 26 targets.
Tournaments:
Travis Kelce, KC ($14,400)
I love Kelce in this spot and we’re not going to be alone. I really wanted to get to him in cash, but my build didn’t allow me to get there. Kelce has been targeted double-digit times in back-to-back weeks for a total of 26 targets. The Broncos have also allowed the 5th most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season and they haven’t faced anyone close to Kelce’s skill level. Kelce is in a smash spot this week and he is definitely going to be in my cash lineup, however, he will not make my captain spot in cash games.
Monday Night Football – Cash Game Locks:
Patrick Mahomes, KC ($12,800)
This is expensive, but this is a spot that I am absolutely not fading. In tournaments I think you could maybe get away with it but even then, the Chiefs have an implied total of 29.5 points. They’re projected for four-plus touchdowns, can’t imagine in my mind a spot where Mahomes isn’t heavily involved in order for them to get to that number. Mahomes is red-fire hot to start the season, throwing for 13 touchdowns and 0 interceptions through the first three weeks of the season. Yes, regression is coming, but it’s not this week. This is a cash game lock and a fade at your own risk in tournaments.
Case Keenum, DEN ($9,800)
The Broncos offense came back to earth the last two weeks, however, this is the get right spot. Keenum’s floor is too high to fade in cash games. As I said above, the Chiefs have allowed the third most yards in the NFL so far this season, Keenum is going to be involved against a weak secondary. The Broncos will likely lose this game, but the Chiefs will give up points and the Keenum is going to be the at the helm of a team that is expected to be trailing late in the game. Lock Keenum in and figure out the rest of the roster.
Roster suggestions: I’m not playing anyone under $3,000 in my cash games
Monday Night Football – Tournament Flyers
Tyreeke Hill, KC ($11,200)
This is very difficult to get too but this guy is a lock for any tournaments article. He is so expensive, but it’s for good reason. His explosiveness allows for him to be able to take any of his target to the house at any time of the game. My issue with Hill is his target volume, as he has only seen a ceiling of 8 targets so far this season. For a player that has not seen double-digit targets yet this season, this is a really tough price to play. However, if Hill hit the 45 Draftkings points he hit earlier in the year, you’re going to need him in the captain spot to contend for anything special. Personally, I like Kelce more, but Hill could be more effective in this match-up.
Emmanuel Sanders, DEN ($9,200)
This spot is the best matchup on the board and he is cash game viable. I cannot get to him because I’m prioritizing others. He’s priced at a weird spot for me, deeming him a tournament play for me. Sanders has been the Broncos number one wide receiver in terms of production so far this season and Case Keenum loves throwing to the slot receiver. Also, the Chiefs have gotten hammered by the slot receiver so far this season, allowing 21 catches for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns through three weeks. I love Sanders, I will have a lot of him in tournaments.
Deep Flyer:
Matt LaCosse, DEN ($2,000)
Jake Butt is done for the season, most are projecting Jeff Heuerman to be pushed into a bigger role, which he will be put he’s not going to be the only tight end playing. LaCosse should also see an uptick in snaps, which could lead to be a really decent punt if he can find the end zone. In four preseason games, LaCosse caught 4 balls on 5 targets and 2 touchdowns. If he doesn’t score, this play is going to bust and I don’t expect him to score. I would only play this if you are multi-entering tournaments trying to strike lightning in a bottle.
Monday Night Football – Suggested Lineup Construction:
Remember, this is a suggestion, I will not give you a full lineup, but you will be able to pretty easily figure out what I’m attacking if you have read this article. In a one-game slate, nearly everyone is in play, but these are some of my favorite plays for the Week 4 Monday Night Football game.
