The New York Mets officially hired Brodie Van Wagenen to be their new General Manager. Here’s how he can make the Mets competitive in 2019.

The Mets decided to go with an outside the box hire at General Manager. Former agent, Brodie Van Wagenen will take over as the GM of the Mets after they parted ways with Sandy Alderson last season.

Van Wagenen was able to land the job over the likes of promising youngster Chaim Bloom and veteran GM Doug Melvin. Van Wagenen worked as an agent for CAA, and some of their clientele includes Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Yoenis Cespedes, Brandon Nimmo, and many more.

Essentially most Mets of importance are working with CAA. From that regard, it’s an interesting idea to bring in someone who worked for the company that represents most of your important pieces.

The biggest concern is that he doesn’t have experience as a General Manager or any role in the front office of a baseball team for that matter.

It’s a risky move, but an interesting move for a team that has been so vanilla for so long. They’re very much in limbo in terms of whether they’re trying to win or trying to rebuild. So today, I’ll help Brodie out with a plan for if they decide that the right idea is trying to compete in 2019.
