3. Vance Joseph, Denver Broncos

Unsurprisingly, the Vance Joseph-era in Denver is coming down to its final games as the season closes out. At 3-6 with a veteran roster, the Broncos have disappointed under Joseph once again. His career record sits at 8-17.

Some of the blame can’t go on Joseph considering he’s not the one picking the quarterback position. John Elway has massively whiffed on the position since Peyton Manning retired, and the team has no long-term solution there for the next coach. Joseph was the victim of subpar quarterbacking in both years.

But he was hired as a defensive coach who could maximize the strength of the team. The problem is that his resume in Miami was too short to know what he could do. Outside of fluky turnovers created, Joseph made little lasting impact with the Dolphins.

The constant mid-game issues overwhelmed Joseph, and that stood out the most in his tenure. He was an under-qualified coach from the start. Denver must do better this go-around.

Elway likely has respect from his peers, but the limited cap and quarterback situation has to hurt their standing compared to other teams with fewer issues. Then again, they possess a playoff-caliber defense, so they can’t be ruled out of landing a big fish.
